Pakistan violates ceasefire along LoC again, Indian Army retaliates

On the intervening night of April 25 and 26, Pakistan once again violated the ceasefire agreement by initiating unprovoked small arms firing from multiple posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. According to officials, the Indian Army retaliated appropriately with small arms fire, and no casualties were reported on the Indian side during the exchange.

This is the second consecutive ceasefire violation by Pakistan following the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed the lives of at least 26 people, mostly tourists. Indian troops were reported to have responded with proportionate force to maintain control and secure the border.

A similar ceasefire violation was reported just days earlier on the intervening night of April 24 and 25, when Pakistan opened fire from various locations along the LoC. Officials confirmed that Indian forces responded in both instances using small arms to neutralize the threat without escalation.

Meanwhile, two terrorist associates were arrested by security forces from Thokerpora in the Qaimoh area of Kulgam district on Saturday. Additionally, a gunfight occurred in the Bazipora forest area of Bandipora district after security forces launched a cordon and search operation based on intelligence inputs. One terrorist reportedly sustained injuries, while two senior police officers were also injured during the encounter.

In response to the Pahalgam attack, Indian authorities announced several diplomatic measures, including the suspension of the 65-year-old Indus Waters Treaty, the closure of the Attari land-border crossing, and the expulsion of Pakistani military attachés. All Pakistani nationals who entered India through the Attari border have been directed to leave by May 1. Pakistan responded by closing its airspace to Indian aircraft and described the suspension of the treaty as an “act of war.”
